Pet Owners

If you’re like most pet owners, you’ll do whatever it takes to keep your cherished animals healthy. If your pet gets sick or hurt, you’ll want to find accurate answers fast. These days, many vets use technologically advanced tools such as magnetic resonance imaging to diagnose specific types of illnesses. AnimalScan is a leading provider of high-quality MRI diagnostic services that are available to veterinary specialists and pet owners in many areas of the United States.

When Will a Vet Recommend an MRI Scan?

A veterinary specialist may refer you to an MRI animal imaging center when other testing procedures — such as CT scans or X-rays — do not enable a full and accurate diagnosis. An MRI is also an option when you and your vet prefer a non-invasive diagnostic approach. We can perform an MRI on any part of a pet’s body.

What Is an Animal Imaging Center?

Our veterinary imaging centers are fully equipped diagnostic facilities that contain the most advanced MRI machines on the market. We staff them with a team of experienced radiologists, technologists, and anesthesiologists who will treat your pet with the utmost care. We operate on a referral basis.  Your vet will submit a scan request to our center that includes information regarding the body part or system that needs imaging. The vet will also send a blood sample and/or radiographs, which we require as part of the testing protocol.

How Do I Make an Appointment?

Once your vet submits the referral to our animal imaging center (we currently operate eight facilities across the U.S.), you’ll be free to contact us to set up a convenient appointment. Please allow for a lead time of 48-72 hours, but keep in mind that same-day emergency appointments are also available. Depending on how far you must travel, you should set aside up to three hours for MRI and CT scan imaging. We’ll provide additional preparation instructions when you call.

What Does the Service Fee Cover?

Pet owners will pay a fee for our services that includes anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, continuous monitoring with cutting-edge equipment and full post-procedure care from our well-trained staff. A board-certified radiologist will interpret the scan and deliver the results to your veterinarian for further evaluation.
