Veterinary MRI Machines

Preferred Veterinary MRI Scanners

At Animalscan we operate, lease, and service a variety of veterinary MRI systems. Our experiences in veterinary medicine, and specifically neurology, have influenced our preference for certain MRI brands and models. The following scanners are available in 8, 16, and 32 channel versions. At any time we keep a few of these available for lease or purchase.

Siemens Magnetom Avanto 1.5T

This scanner wins for speed, flexibility, and accuracy on a budget. The Avanto’s TIM (Total Image Matrix) technology makes scanning multiple regions at one time possible without repositioning between regions. The powerful technology improves workflow and reduces the amount of time patients requiring multiple scans remain under general anesthesia. In addition to TIM the Body Matrix Coils weighing only 33.5 oz. make for simple transitioning between species.

Siemens MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T

  • TIM 4G (Total Image Matrix) and DOT Integrated
  • 70 cm bore
  • Faster connections and easier setup with TIM 4G DirectConnent & SlideConnect table and Coils
  • TIM Dockable Table allows for easy patient prep outside of MRI room

GE Signa 16x

The GE Signa Excite 16x 1.5T MRI Scanner is one of the most widely available MR systems on the secondary market due its lasting quality and reliability – this also makes parts much easier to acquire, which reduces costs of repairs and upgrades. If you are looking to maintain some continuity with other GE equipment this is MR may be a good option.

How Long Does an MRI Take?

MRI animal imaging has undergone a massive shift over the past few years. The technology has gotten better and cheaper in some instances. As such, most MRI scans for pets take only about 20 to 35 minutes to complete. More advanced MRI machines can acquire images in less time. consider the Siemens Avanto with TIM and DOT which allow for acquisition of images from several sites at the same time. This can reduce scan times by 70% in some case.

Since pets are usually active animals, we’ll need light anesthesia to keep them as still as possible during this procedure. The technicians can then calibrate the machine according to the pet so that we can capture images of the highest possible quality.

Who Monitors the Pets Under Anesthesia?

We know what your pets mean to you, and we’ll ensure that they’re properly taken care of from the moment they enter our facility to the time they leave. Since our goal at AnimalScan is to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for your pet, they’ll be placed under the care of a certified anesthesia nurse who has been specially trained to deal with all sorts of animals.

While your pet undergoes the MRI, the nurse will monitor their breathing patterns, pulse oxygenation, heart rate and blood pressure. Before the procedure is performed, bloodwork and chest X-rays will be administered to determine whether it’s safe to give anesthesia to the pet.

What About My Vet?

Your local vet is your pet’s primary medical care provider. For that reason, they should be involved in every step of the process. Unlike many other facilities providing the same services we are, our goal isn’t to poach you from your vet. Instead, we have a much better inclusivity policy that ensures your local vet is not cut out of the loop.

We have a system in place that ensures your vet can check out the images of the scan online and even have a copy of the results for their permanent records. This way, even the vet who doesn’t have the right equipment for this situation will be able to make a much more informed decision.
